Have you received a job offer but there is something holding you back from accepting it? Something in your mind that has you questioning if the company is the right fit for you? Then you need to investigate your hunch and determine whether there is some validity to your concerns.

workplace company culture

What a company says and how they act in practice can be very different. There are countless cases of people starting a new job only to find out it was very different than advertised.

Below, we outline some clever ways to assess company culture before you accept a job offer:

HIRE BETTER TODAY

1. Ask a Lot of Questions

If you want answers, you need to ask a lot of questions. If you have concerns about a company’s true culture, then make it a point to ask specific questions about the organizational culture. Ask questions during the interview, send questions to human resources, and spark up conversations with everyone you meet throughout the hiring process.

2. Pay Close Attention to the Workplace Environment

What type of energy do you sense when you walk into the company office? Do people seem happy to be at work? Is the energy level low? What is the overall vibe you get from the company? Every minute you spend at the office will give you more insights into what your workday will resemble.

This may be more challenging right now, especially if you interviewed for your job via video. But do your best to see if you fit the energy the company and its people project.

3. Check Out the Company Online

You likely have already done this. Most people will look at the company website and LinkedIn profile. But it’s important to take a deeper dive to see what you can uncover about a potential employer. Look at the company’s social profiles and pay attention to what they say and post online. Does it reflect what they say on their website? Or is there a disconnect between what they are trying to portray and how they actually act?

Also, check out the news to see if the company has been in the news. Don’t just read the current news, check out past articles. If they are a big company, read their Wikipedia page.

4. What Do Reviews Say?

There are two types of reviews you should check out. Employer reviews on employment websites and Google Reviews. This will give you an overview of how the company is ranked as an employer and how they are perceived by their customers. You can learn a lot about a company based on what others say about them.
