hen you think of recruiting and social media, LinkedIn is the first platform that comes to mind. Some of you may use Twitter, as well. But what about Facebook? Is Facebook the next big platform for online recruiting? Will it become a popular place to search for jobs and connect with recruiters online? It has the potential.

What We Know About Facebook as a Job Search and Recruiting Tool

Jobs on Facebook

Here are four important things that we already know about Facebook:

1. It’s ideal for passive recruiting: Job seekers and companies both have the ability to put their best foot forward, optimize their profiles and seek out connections. If you haven’t already, perhaps it’s time to clean up your Facebook profile!

2. The size is second to none: With close to 2 billion users, there is no doubt that Facebook has a reach that cannot be rivaled by other social media platforms. How it benefits job seekers and companies/ recruiters will be one of the keys to its success as a job resource.

3. Companies are already using it as a recruiting tool: It’s not like companies are just deciding now to use Facebook as a recruiting resource. They have been using the platform to promote open jobs and have been using Facebook to screen potential candidate for a number of years.

4. Facebook Jobs will make things easier: The new Jobs on Facebook feature, while not revolutionary, makes it easier for companies and job seekers to connect. All job seekers need to do is perform a simple search to see available opportunities, and all companies need to do is post a job listing that is now searchable.

Facebook search

So, will Facebook become the next big thing for online recruiting? Possibly.

“The potential impact of the Facebook jobs board on employee recruitment is undeniable because of the sheer volume of users. Will this help or hinder the quest to search smarter, not harder? Use the Facebook launch as an opportunity to test your job search strategy — and polish your social profiles. With or without Facebook, there’s always room to upgrade the Virtual You,” concludes William Arruda on Forbes.
