Our client is a bank in downtown Toronto looking to add a dynamic an more specialized Employee Relations Advisor to their Human Resource generalist team. The Employee Relations Advisor will provide guidance and advice to business leaders, people managers and employees regarding various employee relations matters that arise in the course of business, while ensuring consistency with human resources best practices and compliance with applicable employment laws as well as Company policies, procedures and programs.
Responsibilities of the Employee Relations Advisor include to coach and advise people managers on complex and diverse employee relations matters (e.g., performance management, attendance management, disability management, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, progressive discipline, workplace investigations and dismissals), including compiling and preparing evidence to support appropriate recommendations.Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.Provide overall employee relations support to staff inquires regarding policies and procedures.Field, investigate and resolve employee issues, concerns, and complaints.Conduct research and analysis on a wide spectrum of employment law issues, including human resources policies and procedures.Keep up-to-date with evolving employment laws, legislative changes, and other major industry trends with potential employee relations impacts.Draft and formulate relevant correspondence within the realm of employee relations and/or human resources (e.g., correspondence to disability providers and legal representatives).Track and maintain employee relations metrics and report on trends to upper management.Evaluate the effectiveness of and contribute to the continuous improvement of human resources and employee relations programs.Participate and provide input into human resources strategic plans and ensure successful implementation. The Employee Relations Advisor is responsible for reviewing, editing, obtaining approvals and distributing all formal human resources communications to the business, including communications relating to employee recognition programs.Provide support and/or involvement on committees and projects, as required, including but not limited to the monitoring and maintenance of the Company's employer profile on social media.
The qualifications we are looking for are a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field, and 4+ years of human resources generalist experience, including experience in an employee relations capacity, preferably in the financial services industry.Strong working knowledge of applicable employment standards and human rights legislation, particularly the Canada Labour Code and Canadian Human Rights Act, and their application in a business operation.Skilled in dealing with workplace behaviour issues and practices.Highly developed probing, investigative and analytical skills to identify issues, write reports and make recommendations.Ability to provide informal coaching to individuals at all levels and influence as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes.Action oriented individual, who demonstrates high accountability, sound judgment and decision making abilities.Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in core competencies including listening, analyzing, problem solving, influencing, decision making, negotiation, and adaptability.Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation would be an asset.
