Job Description

Our client, Sensors & Software, is looking for an experienced Lead Software Developer for their team.

Project Execution

  • Analyze requirements to plan projects and sprints;
  • Provide regular and accurate progress updates to the project lead and stakeholders;
  • Create project execution and closing documentation;
  • Define, design and lead software development projects.

Technical Knowledge

  • Architect/design, code, test and document new software;
  • Maintain and extend feature set of existing applications;
  • Practice and encourage agile development methods;
  • Practice and encourage the use of test driven development;
  • Participate in code review process as a submitter and reviewer;
  • Perform functional testing of software components and applications and develop / maintain automated tests;
  • Maintain understanding of current and new GPR technologies;
  • Be technical lead on medium to large size projects;
  • Applies critical thinking skills to make design decisions.

Product Application Knowledge

  • Understand the major areas of product use which S&S commonly refers to as the Big 8 and have pracitical field experience with most company products;
  • Have used equipment in real field conditions, understand the operational extremes and common pitfalls;
  • Have a good knowledge of product hardware and field functionality and how these impact software design;
  • Deliver seminars and short courses as needed to support the training department and possible tradeshow support.

General

  • Maintain regular communication with team and department members;
  • Assist with onboarding of new hires;
  • Writing technical documentation for interdepartmental audiences and be a lead source of product information for the Product Management team;
  • Assist with technical support and provide supporting interaction with customers in special cases;
  • Provide mentoring to other software developer levels;
  • Promote transparency on current software progress using continuous integration.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Produce code which is well tested and documented. Consider the full effect of changes before they're made and put emphasis on the reusablitily of modules;
  • Adherence to and development of software team process and practices;
  • Timely completion of tasks based on agreed upon schedule;
  • Providing regular and accurate status updates;
  • Development of technical documentation resources;
  • Ingenuity of designs to meet project needs;
  • Fostering an open and collaborative development environment;
  • Performance and development of new / junior staff.

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor of Computer Science / Computer Engineering or equivalent degree;
  • Proficient in Python, JavaScript, C/C++;
  • Proficient with source control, issue tracking and continuous integration systems;
  • Working knowledge of Windows application framework and Microsoft development tool suite;
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to clearly communicate and share solutions;
  • Working knowledge and application of software design patterns;
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Windows development environments;
  • Experience in agile development methodologies including scrum, Kanban, and TDD;
  • 7 years’ experience on a software development team required;
  • Capable of maintaining and refactoring legacy code bases;
  • 2 years' project management experience.
