The successful individual will have experience planning and organizing a wide range of events, from concert series to social gatherings and artist showcases. In addition, the individual will excel in an environment where they can be both hands on and be responsible to make decisions for the organization.

To be a successful Program Director, you should demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and strong leadership skills. The Program Director will also understand the logistics and requirements for event planning and demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and develop all new programs for both the Schoolhouse and Spindrift
  • Execute and manage all programs
  • Responsible for all areas of operations of the venues
  • Hire, train, and mentor staff
  • Book, contract, and manage performers and artists
  • Build and manage relationships (internally and externally)
  • Work with our related company and its management team to ensure effective communication of all planned events
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop sponsorship, partnership and fundraising programs
  • Other ad hoc items, as needed.
Required Skills:
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Must be able to communicate confidently and effectively with people ranging from customers to contractors.
  • Adaptability: Adaptability is a key skill for dealing with the many different aspects of the job and the different challenges that can arise when managing a venue. Must be comfortable pivoting and problem solving.
  • Organization and efficiency: Strong organisation skills are vital for managing the numerous tasks involved in running a venue and organising the people who work within it.
  • Negotiation skills: The ability to negotiate effectively is critical for closing deals and negotiating terms of contracts with suppliers, artists, and contractors.

Peggy’s Cove Centre for Arts & Culture comprises of two separate artistic operations:
The Schoolhouse, built in 1839, operates the organization’s main performance venue. It has been a place of learning and worship, a community gathering space, and—since 1958, when it ceased to be a school—the scene of artistic presentation. In the last two years, the Schoolhouse has returned to its decades old tradition of educating through entertaining.
Spindrift Gallery which supports and showcases Atlantic Canadian artists and heritage. Spindrift Gallery has been transformed into a main-floor art gallery with a beautiful second-floor loft to allow for an artist-in-residence program. The gallery will showcase fine art by Atlantic Canadian artists as well as historical exhibits.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Program Director, will be responsible for the research, planning, development and implementation of the organization’s programs.
