The role of the VP Investments is to lead the creation, negotiation and implementation of all broadcast agreements for all clients of Mediabrands. The objective of the role is to harness the aggregate power of all spend with broadcasters to create leverage in the market, driving savings and efficiencies and ultimately making smarter, more effective media investments on behalf of our clients.  The position requires strong working relationships with the executive leadership team as well as senior management at all Mediabrands agencies.


  • Lead in the creation, strategic negotiation and execution of all broadcast agreements for all clients of Mediabrands Canada.
  • Facilitate information gathering of client needs across all clients and all agencies in order to identify value opportunities, client requirements, and other intelligence to inform the negotiation process
  • Articulate components and benefits of each deal to senior internal stakeholders
  • Build exceptional relationships with Canadian media partners to deliver first-to-market opportunities and preferential rates for our clients.
  • Play a significant role in defining the overall investment strategy for Mediabrands which lays the foundation for individual deals
  • Assess investment market conditions (e.g. ownership changes, program performance, share of tuning, inventory supply and demand)and deploy those insights against investment strategy and negotiations
  • Track and monitor overall spend and pricing to optimize against global and local client agreements and market; facilitate adjustments as needed
  • Ensure all deal components and tiered benefits are implemented as earned.
  • Lead the accountability practice and collaborate with client teams and global accountability peers to deliver against client performance KPI’s and contractual agreements.
  • Lead the monthly projections process across all agencies/clients across all media channels.
  • Play a leadership role, through partnership with brand investments leads, in identifying synergies, best practices, and process improvement opportunities to ensure our investment structure is efficient and effective.
  • Working through the team, ensure the MAGNA dashboard is maintained with timely & accurate spend information.
  • Lead new business pricing exercises in conjunction with brand investment leads and build/maintain the new business database within the MAGNA dashboard.
  • Provide thought leadership internally and externally around the changing video landscape including TV, Advanced TV, Over the Top, and digital video.
  • Collaborate with SBUs and agencies to help identify opportunities for clients.


  • Post-secondary education – University graduate and/or advertising/marketing College degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in media investment; digital experience an asset
  • Proven experience delivering inspiring and persuasive presentations.
  • Ability to manage complexity across multiple groups, clients and interagency partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop talent and lead high-performing teams through goal setting and performance management
  • Excellent analytical and financial acumen.
  • Ability to develop and foster strong relationships and partnerships internally and externally at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply knowledge and insights gained from research and reporting resources to media buying.
  • Solutions oriented and approaches obstacles with positivity, creativity, and resolve.
  • Proven excellence in media negotiations.
  • Big picture thinker with the aptitude for operational excellence
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced understanding of media research tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
