1. Time for Reflection

Do they match with the type of job you want? Do you have shortcomings? Which skills can you improve upon? Which skills and qualifications can you add?
Review your resume and LinkedIn profile. Update both while you’re assessing yourself as a candidate. If you have access, speak with other trusted professionals or colleagues within your industry to get some input.
4. Take an Online Course
Consider taking an online course. Is there a certification you have been meaning to get, but didn’t have the time? Are there certain courses you could benefit from?
You can also get caught up on your reading list. Look for books that can help you gain new perspectives, learn new insights, and become a better professional in your industry.
5. Get Caught Up With Industry Developments
Keeping up with the latest trends in your industry can be challenging. Do your best to stay on top of the latest news. This will not only help you gain a deeper understanding of emerging trends, issues, and opportunities, it will also help you understand the direction you want to take in your career. It’s also a great way to prepare for job interviews. You never know when an interviewer will ask you about industry news.
6. Improve Your IT Skills
COVID-19 has highlighted the importance for all people to have good IT skills. How strong are your technology skills? Which areas could you improve? What technology is being deployed in your industry? How could technology change the way you do your job? Look for ways to improve your understanding and application of IT skills within the framework of your career.
7. Mentorship
Not sure which direction you want to take your career? Should you leave your current job? Unclear about the next step you should take? These are all great questions you can address with a mentor. Some expert guidance from someone in your field of work can greatly help you better understand your options, strengths, shortcomings, and develop a stronger and more focused career plan.
8. Be Ready for When Things Get Back to “Normal”
Taking the time now to improve is important. COVID-19 and social distancing rules have given you an opportunity to spend more time on yourself. Take it and run with it. If you do, you’ll be a better candidate and well-positioned to capitalize on your next career opportunity.
