Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Compensation: $450,000 total comp package
We are representing a leading digital media company seeking a Chief Technology Officer in a newly created role focused on leading enterprise-wide platform transformation, modernization, and engineering execution across a portfolio of high-traffic digital marketplace platforms and applications.
Reporting to the CEO, the CTO will partner closely with Product and Executive Leadership to drive long-term technology strategy, simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, and enable scalable, data-driven marketplace capabilities.

Technology Strategy & Architecture
- Define and execute long-term technology strategy
- Simplify architecture across legacy and acquired systems
- Ensure scalability across high-traffic marketplace platforms
- Align architecture and engineering standards across platforms where appropriate
Frontend
- Consolidate frameworks into a standardized platform
- Decommission legacy systems
- Modernize legacy systems and support service-based architecture
- Reduce complexity and improve maintainability
- Implement unified data architecture
- Ensure consistency across inventory, search, and analytics systems
- Lead a global distributed engineering organization
- Build a culture of accountability, execution, and operational excellence
- Improve engineering velocity, predictability, and cross-functional alignment
- Establish best practices for observability, monitoring, and incident response
- Ensure high availability and performance across all platforms
- Implement automated testing and CI/CD standards
- Establish data as a core platform capability
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and reliable reporting
- Partner with Product and Analytics teams on customer insights initiatives
- Enable infrastructure supporting AI-driven capabilities including search, pricing, and recommendations
- Support rapid development of data-driven product features
- Protect proprietary data from external AI exploitation
- Lead platform security initiatives across infrastructure and applications
- Protect PII and ensure compliance with security standards
- Maintain incident response and disaster recovery capabilities
- Platform uptime, performance, and latency
- Engineering velocity and delivery predictability
- Reduction in technical debt and legacy systems
- Adoption of modern architecture and data platforms
- Improvements in marketplace performance and customer outcomes

Experience
- 15+ years in software engineering and technology leadership
- Experience leading global engineering organizations of 100+ employees
- Proven success scaling consumer-facing platforms
- Experience leading large-scale platform modernization initiatives
- Distributed systems and cloud-native architecture (AWS)
- Modern web technologies including Node.js, PHP, React, and Vue
- Data platforms including Elasticsearch, relational, and NoSQL databases
- DevOps and site reliability engineering practices
- Strong execution and operational leadership
- Ability to simplify complex systems and organizations
- Strategic mindset with hands-on leadership capability
- Experience leading enterprise-scale transformation initiatives
