Position: Chief Technology Officer
Location: The position can be based in New York, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, or elsewhere with travel required.
Reports to: CEO

Opportunity Overview:

Our client, a leading fully integrated marketing communications network is looking for a Chief Technology Officer, with responsibility for providing both vision and implementation for digital and technology strategies to propel the organization; the role will report directly to the CEO of the primary Holding Company.


With more than 50% of their revenue coming from digital and mobile advertising, media and communications, their goal is to be the fastest growing, most technologically advanced and best places to work. Hiring a CTO is a key strategy in helping them achieve their goals.

This role will lead the company, its leadership teams and business units (their various North American/international marketing services agencies), by providing vision, guidance, direction and oversight of technology initiatives that help propel them to category marketing services category leadership in the following areas:

Innovation, Data and Future Technology Platforms, including AI. They are looking for a visionary leader to help them find, develop and implement the technology platform(s) which will help them serve their clients to make them more successful, to help their product (owned, earned, paid advertising, media and communications) be even more spectacular and to help their talented people and entrepreneurs reach be happier and more efficient.

Labs & Innovation Fund. Be a key leader (alongside Chief of Development & Innovation Fund Lead) overseeing the network’s Labs (currently in 4 cities with plans to expand to 7) and Innovation fund, geared to find future technologies that will help them achieve their innovation goals and generate returns for the company and other investors.

Security & Privacy, responsible for the team that will ensure that they are one of the most dependable and safest places for our clients, employees, and company’s data and private information. This includes responsibility for cyber security both for the network and as interface with their clients.

Innovation Partnerships, including developing and foster relationships with key technology vendors and clients like Google, Facebook, Amazon and Adobe.

Information Services/Information Technology (ISIT) including oversight of company resources and staff servicing all offices and operations.

Requirements of Role and Primary responsibilities:

As CTO, your primary responsibilities will include and not limited to the following:

  • Establish the company’s technical and digital vision and lead all aspects of the company’s technological and data development.
  • Direct the company’s strategic direction, development and future growth.
  • Work in a consultative fashion with other business unit/agency heads, as well as MSC operational leaders – including ISIT – as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership to department heads in a fashion that supports the company’s culture, mission and values.
  • Conduct research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation.
  • Act as a good steward of the company’s resources and ensures control of relevant budgets.

Desired Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have exceptional business acumen and a proven track record in managing, integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management. He/she will also have the experience to manage a senior team and maintain a high level of engagement from all employees.  It is critical that this individual has the passion and credibility to lead other leaders, to be a global leader in technology among marketing services agencies.

BS in related field and at least 15 years of experience in the Information Technology arena, at least 10 years management and strategic experience in this field or MBA/MS in related filed with 10 years of experience, seven (7) of which must be managerial and strategic.
