Job Description

The Director of Procurement and Customer Service ensures the consistent, cost-effective, efficient, and adequacy of the procurement process. The Director is responsible for developing, overseeing, and facilitating the purchasing strategy, supervising teams of subordinate staff in purchasing and customer service and ensuring all employees and processes meet the company’s standards for work quality.


  • Establish essential guidelines for approving purchase orders, setting purchasing policies, managing inventory (levels and turns) and continuously consider stock requirements
  • In addition, continuously collaborate to develop and execute cost-reduction initiatives and alternative supplier sourcing
  • Develop and communicate a procurement business plan that is consistent with the short- and long-term goals of the organization
  • As part of the senior leadership team, the Director is continuously communicating with operations, finance, sales representatives, and administrative staff
  • Serve as primary contact for procurement related questions and is in direct communication with vendors/suppliers to negotiate contracts and improve the purchasing process
  • Maintain knowledge of the marketplace with respect to current prices and availability of goods
  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the activities and operations of the Purchasing department
  • Implement systems, procedures, and controls to establish, monitor and achieve optimal stock levels
  • Monitor and detect sensitive changes in all departmental operations that may influence overall results
  • Work closely to coordinate activities with Warehouse, Customer Service, and Sales
  • Ensure that all direct reports maintain close relationships with all other stakeholders
  • All other duties assigned as required


  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or Business degree with a minimum of 10 years related experience
  • Automotive OEM and tier experience an asset
  • Experience with overseas manufacturers
  • Prophet 21 ERP experience an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and conceptual understanding of relational database technologies

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain contacts, both inside and outside the organization
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Technical understanding of fasteners is an asset

Working Conditions

  • Office environment
  • May experience some overtime
  • Occasional travel requirements to vendors and trade shows within Canada and the U.S.
