Senior Financial Controller Compensation: $225,000 – $275,000
Location: Downtown Toronto (100% on-site)
We are representing a growing fintech company that is building out its Toronto finance and control function to support regulated operations and continued growth. This is a newly created position within the organization’s Accounting & Finance team.
Role Overview The Senior Financial Controller will oversee the full finance cycle, including financial control, regulatory reporting, capital monitoring, and financial analysis.
This role requires a hands-on finance professional with experience in regulated financial services or brokerage environments and strong knowledge of regulatory capital and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the full cycle of finance and accounting operations, including daily financial activities, regulatory monitoring, and month-end close
- Maintain accounting systems, books, and records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and documentation standards
- Perform and review reconciliations of client funds, bank accounts, and payment processors
- Prepare and review management accounts, financial analysis, and supporting schedules
- Prepare and monitor daily CIRO regulatory capital calculations and ensure ongoing capital adequacy
- Conduct analytical reviews of financial results and balance sheet movements to identify risks, anomalies, and operational insights
- Maintain strong financial controls and reconciliation procedures across finance processes
- Prepare and oversee submission of CIRO regulatory reports and filings
- Liaise with auditors and external advisors on financial matters
- Prepare and maintain SOX control documentation
- Partner with finance, operational teams, banks, and external stakeholders
- Provide financial insights to support operational decision-making
- Oversee supplier accounting, reconciliations, invoice processing, and payments
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation
- Support ad hoc accounting and finance initiatives as required
Qualifications - CPA designation required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 3–5+ years of accounting or financial control experience
- Experience within financial services, brokerage, or regulated environments strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of CIRO regulatory capital requirements and broker financial reporting
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical capabilities
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced fintech environment with strict regulatory deadlines
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, and ability to work independently
- Experience with NetSuite ERP considered an asset
