SUMMARY: Our client delivers excellence in industrial construction, maintenance, and fabrication. They offer services ranging from custom and structural steel fabrication to piping, electrical, ventilation & dust collection systems, scaffolding and structural steel erection.
FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES - Controlling and managing the day-to-day operations of the department and coordinating activities and work priorities with the staff
- Develop and manage budgets, track financial performance, and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Continuously assess and improve operational processes for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Plan, organize, and manage piping construction projects from initiation to completion, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable regulations, permits, and industry standards, including CDA, ASME, and other relevant codes.
- Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.
- Plan, organize and manage pipe fabrication including generating spool fabrication drawings, tracking and reporting progress and ensuring compliance with Codes and Customer specifications.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any concerns or issues.
- Resolve conflicts or disputes that may arise during construction, collaborating with stakeholders to find mutually satisfactory solutions.
- Identify potential risks related to piping construction activities and develop mitigation strategies.
- Developing new business opportunities and maintaining strong business ties with key clients, strategic suppliers, sub-Contractors and end-users, ensuring business growth, profitability and exceptional service.
- Oversee and manage estimating and full quantity take-offs of all labour, materials and equipment required to complete the project as per contract specifications to ensure accuracy of pricing.
- Provide direction on the scope and requirements to the suppliers and subcontractors based on specifications included RFP document.
- Oversee solicitation of pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labour, equipment, and material, to ascertain the most competitive pricing, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
- Review subcontractors pricing, inclusions, exclusions or qualifications for price evaluation and subcontractor selection.
- Responsible to identify execution risks with full comprehension of the tender documentation and developing project plans, to mitigate risks.
- Responsible for identifying pricing risks with full comprehension of the tender documentation and develop proposal terms and conditions to support/defend pricing and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with estimating team to prepare bid pricing documents, schedules, and project execution plans.
- Complete a final bid submission review and oversee the final tender document submission to the client.
- Work with the Client Contract Administrators to provide clarification as and when required during the post tender/pre award stage.
- Oversee project management including purchasing, scheduling, document control, submittals, contract administration and quality assurance.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Recruiting staff, training them and developing their skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Post-secondary university or college technical degree and/or equivalent work experience
- Pipe fitting experience preferable but not essential
- Equivalent combination of technical training and 15+ years of experience in the piping construction industry, including estimating and pipe fabrication.
- Minimum 5 years Project Management experience in a related role
- Solid Management background with strategic thinking, and knowledge of overall running of a business unit
- Extensive knowledge of project execution, financial operations, and employee relations required.
- General construction knowledge and the integration of other trades work, understands specifications, methods, and procedures.
- In-depth working knowledge of the following codes.
- ASME B31.1 Power Piping
- ASME B31.3 Process Piping
- ASME Section VIII Division I
- CSA B51
- Capable of identifying constructability issues in complex situations and establishing solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
- Experience in preparation proposal documents such as of Preliminary Schedules, Manpower Loading Charts, Work Execution Plans, and Organization Charts etc.
- Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes.
- Proven competency in the operation of key software and productivity tools such as MS Office (particularly Excel), Adobe Reader, NAVIS Works, and Primavera P6
- Working knowledge of CAD software products.
- Experience working with & reading 2D plans.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
