Senior Project Manager (New Role)

IQ PARTNERS is recruiting on behalf of the Insurance Institute of Canada, which is seeking a highly organized and collaborative Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver a diverse portfolio of initiatives spanning both business and technology functions. This is a newly created role, reflecting the organization’s growing focus on structured, high-impact project delivery.

This role is responsible for planning, executing, and successfully closing projects that support organizational priorities, operational efficiency, and member experience. Working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, the Project Manager will ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business and IT strategic objectives. The ideal candidate brings a structured approach to project delivery while remaining adaptable in a dynamic environment.

Salary range: $110,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience.

Established in 1899, the Institute is a not-for-profit organization serving more than 39,000 members across Canada through 19 volunteer-driven provincial institutes and chapters. Duties & Responsibilities Project Delivery & Execution
  • Lead the full project lifecycle from initiation through planning, execution, monitoring, and closure
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements
  • Define project scope, objectives, risks, and success metrics in partnership with stakeholders
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner with business leaders, IT teams, vendors, and external partners to drive alignment and accountability
  • Facilitate architecture review groups, project meetings, steering committees, and status updates
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
Risk & Change Management
  • Identify risks and dependencies early and implement mitigation strategies
  • Manage scope changes through structured change control processes
  • Escalate issues appropriately while proposing practical solutions
Operational Excellence
  • Promote project management best practices, tools, and governance
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and financial tracking
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across project delivery frameworks

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, or similar certification is considered an asset
Experience
  • 7–10+ years of progressive project management experience (level may be calibrated based on seniority needs)
  • Demonstrated success managing cross-functional projects involving both business and technology teams
  • Experience managing projects within the education sector (e.g., universities, colleges, or similar institutions) is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in institutions, associations, or similarly structured organizations is an asset
  • Strong understanding of project governance, budgeting, and resource planning
Skills
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and act as a trusted advisor across business and IT teams
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the capability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in high-pressure, mission-critical environments
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management abilities, ensuring clear information sharing and efficient workflow planning
  • Proven technical leadership and project management skills, with experience driving and documenting large-scale infrastructure upgrades and migration initiatives
  • Strong multitasking capability, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively, and make sound, data-driven decisions
  • Adaptable and versatile, with a willingness to take on a broad range of responsibilities typical in a small, high-performing IT team
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and competing priorities
  • High attention to detail with a proactive approach
  • Ability to influence without direct authority
