The hiring market is moving extremely fast today. Companies are feverishly trying to ramp up and fill open positions that were left empty during the pandemic. There are too many jobs and not enough people. This is a great situation for job candidates. You have leverage. The best time to apply for jobs is when the quantity outweighs the quality.

But even though it’s a candidates’ market, you can’t let your guard down. An abundance of opportunities can make people think that there will always be another opportunity. But this is not always the case.

A great job opportunity is appealing, and it will be snapped up quickly. The best jobs will always be in high demand, so don’t be slow. Plus, companies have a greater incentive to hire faster because they have more job openings than normal.

Here are some tips to ensure you get your name in the running for the top jobs in your industry:

As soon as you have identified a job you would like to apply for, take the steps to complete the application. Submit your candidacy.

Have your resume and LinkedIn up to date

Don’t wait until you see a job you like to update your resume. Ensure all elements of your resume and LinkedIn profile are up to date. Then, when you see a job to apply for, you can cater your resume for the job.

Be responsive

If a recruiter or hiring manager reaches out to you about a potential opportunity, respond to them as soon as possible. Even waiting for a day or two could be the difference between getting an interview or being out of the running.

Be flexible with interview dates and times

If you receive an interview request, be as accommodating as possible. The sooner you book in your interview and have your face-to-face, the quicker you’ll be able to progress through the hiring process.
