When companies hire can have a significant impact on your job search. If you are out of a job, you don’t really have much control over this situation. But, if you are a passive candidate and are considering making the jump to another organization, having an understanding of when companies hire the most can help you strategically plan your exit.

when do companies hire

If you really want to work for a company, you should determine when they hire the most people. Below we will talk about two ways to figure it out

HIRE BETTER TODAY

When Do Companies Hire the Most?

There are two things to consider when companies hire:

  • The time of year
  • The company’s recruitment cycle

The time of year

The time of year when you look for a job matters. The start of the year is generally regarded as the best time to look for a job. Companies get their new annual budgets approved in January and February. The early part of the spring is also a common time for companies to hire new people. Then again in the fall, after summer vacation, is another busy recruiting time.

So, ensure your resume and LinkedIn are up to date and you are ready to dedicate more time to your job search. But also keep in mind that a company could hire any time of the year based on hiring needs and changing market conditions.

Company recruitment cycle

How your industry operates can have a large impact on when companies choose to hire people. Does your company have a high and low season? For example, accounting firms more actively recruit before tax season.

Other industries hire based on the school year. Each year, they look to hire new graduates coming out of school. So, it’s more likely for them to be busy recruiting in early spring.

If you find yourself outside of a company’s hiring cycle, there is still a lot you can do. Start by networking with recruiters and others within the organizations. Building a relationship can help give you an edge and get you an interview when it comes time for the company to hire. Keep an eye on the company’s social media and website. You never know when a hiring need for them could turn into the opportunity you have been waiting for.
