Casting a wider net can have a big impact on the quality of candidates you attract. You may have exhausted the talent pool locally. If you want to broaden your reach, identify the top international job boards for your industry.
Social media can also be a great tool to connect with candidates who are far away geographically. Use social media to identify top talent in your industry outside of Canada. Look for passive candidates, work on building relationships with top contributors, and communicate the value of your employer brand to attract international candidates.
Technology has certainly made it much easier to connect with and recruit talent, regardless of location. Use video conferencing to conduct interviews and meet candidates virtually. Telecommute and use other social technology to communicate with candidates throughout the recruitment process.
Relocation plays a big part in an international candidate’s decision to come to work for your company. Clearly outline the relocation process for them. Explain the perks of relocating and how your company will help in the process. Will you cover moving expenses, help them secure a work visa and required documentation, and find a place to live? Make the transition as easy as possible for them.
Sometimes international talent is interested in working for your company, but they are not interested in relocating. Being open to having remote roles can help you still take advantage of international talent, even if you can’t have them in-house all the time.
